Chef Angus An's Sen Pad Thai Opens Softly Today at Granville Island's Net Loft

Chef Angus An’s much-anticipated noodle stall, Sen Pad Thai, launches its soft opening today with a slightly reduced menu. Inspired by street food stands in Chanthaburi, Thailand, the counter-service eatery at #70–1666 Johnston Street in Granville Island’s Net Loft serves stir-fried noodles, snacks, sides, and desserts. Expect a full menu to be up and running by Monday May 8.

Long noodles are the star at casual food stand by award-winning chef

Sen Pad Thai is the fifth addition to Chef Angus An’s family of eateries. Maenam, Chef Angus’s flagship Kitsilano restaurant and Vancouver magazine’s 2016 Restaurant of the Year, serves authentic Thai cuisine complemented by a smart wine list and range of Asian-inspired cocktails. In recent years Chef Angus has expanded his reach to the Vancouver suburb of New Westminster, where sister restaurant Longtail Kitchen serves Thai street food, and sibling Freebird Chicken Shack grills, fries, and roasts flavourful Asian-style chicken dishes. Chef Angus also serves casual noodle soups and sides at Fat Mao Noodles in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown neighbourhood.

Long noodle dishes include: Pad Thai Goong ($13) with crispy local side stripe shrimp; Pad Pu Sen Chan ($15), a special dish made with delicate crab meat; and Pad Mi Korat ($13), a Northern-style stir-fried noodle with crispy pork.

Rice sheet stir-fries and fried rice also feature large on the menu. Try Pad Ki Mao Beef ($14), with rice sheets and holy basil, or Khao Pad, a stir-fried rice dish with Chinese sausage. Extra hungry? Chef Angus recommends adding a fried egg ($2) to top many of the dishes.

Visitors to the Net Loft will also want to drop by Sen Pad Thai regularly to check out the featured daily curry.

To round out the meal, try heartier sides like Crispy Wings with Thai Garlic, or Roti & Curry ($6), or lighter fare like Papaya Salad ($8.) Finish with a refreshing Thai-style dessert of Black Sticky Rice in Pandan and Coconut ($6), or sweet Banana Roti ($6.)

Sen Pad Thai is open daily from 10am–7pm, and shares common-area seating within the Net Loft building at Granville Island market. For more information visit www.senpadthai.com or call 778-829-5968.

In April 2017 Chef Angus An was proud to accept Vancouver magazine awards for the city’s Best Thai (Maenam, Gold; Longtail Kitchen, Silver), and Best Pan-Asian (Freebird Chicken Shack, Bronze; Fat Mao Noodles, Honourable Mention). For more information and to view a menu visit www.senpadthai.com
