Food For Thought: A speaker series about food
Arrival Agency is pleased to announce the lineup of speakers for Food for Thought on Thursday, June 29. Happening at the Fox Cabaret (2321 Main Street), the event is part of YVR Food Fest, which takes place from June 27 to July 3.
After a successful inaugural event last year, Food for Thought is back with an even more diverse lineup to offer local and international perspectives on food. Food For Thought is speaker series of genuine and personal stories about food-related topics that engage, provoke, and inspire. The event also includes a panel discussion with audience participation.
Taking the stage this year are include chef Angus An from Maenam and Fat Mao; chef Andrea Carlson from Burdock and Co and Harvest; food educator Camille Flanjak from Museum Eats, TV host and author Desiree Nielsen Host of Urban Vegetarian on Gusto TV, chef Jair Tellez from Vancouver’s Fayuca and Mexico’s Laja, MeroToro, and Amaya; and herbalist Cease Wyss from Raven and Hummingbird Tea Co.
“Our goal for Food for Thought is to bring together some of the brightest food minds in the city to create a discussion about food culture. We knew cultural diversity would be a big part of the conversation so we've brought in Cease Wyss to provide a First Nations look on food, and Jair Tellez to provide a big picture look at food from the Mexican perspective. It’s going to be a fun, enlightening event,” says Food for Thought programmer Michael Unger.
Food for Thought is part of YVR Food Fest. Other events include Gather, a series of collaborative dinners with local and international culinary talent; the Canada Day Cook Out, a gigantic Canada Day party with Bands, Beer and BBQ (Saturday, July 1); the Street Food Showdown, a gathering of 80+ food carts, restaurants, wineries and breweries (Sunday, July 2); and the Big Brunch, a giant outdoor brunch (Monday, July 3).
