Long May it Reign: Main Street Raises a Glass to its New Burger & Beer King

It’s official: what started as a one-off pop-up has evolved into a permanent collaboration establishing Main Street’s largest and most hotly anticipated gathering spot for burgers and beers. Monarch Burger officially launches at The American on Friday, April 28, 2017 as the city’s newest hub for classic burger lovers.

This new burger concept by Robert Belcham, culinary kingpin behind some of the best burgers Vancouverites have ever tasted, finds a perfect home at The American owned by fellow East-siders Ezra Kish, Simon Fallick, and Patryk Drozd.

The Monarch Burger menu is hearty and concise, featuring a hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, veggie burger, and grilled cheese along with sides of fries, poutine, and a kale Caesar salad. Quality ingredients and pride in preparation are the hallmarks: beef is aged for 45 days, and fries are made from local Russet Burbank potatoes. Burgers are customizable with a short-list of add-ons, and early birds can take advantage of the daily $12 burger-and-beer special between 5:00pm and 7:00pm.

As the newest member of The Cobalt and Boxcar family, The American is a 150-seat pub adorned with communal tables, pinball, and arcade games open seven nights a week from 5:00pm to late. A wide variety of B.C. craft beer sets the tone for the drinks menu while English-style pub service characterizes the relaxed vibe; customers belly up to the bar to both order and pay. Parents love the family-friendly approach—children are welcome until 10:00pm. “We wanted to create a place where everyone in the neighbourhood would feel comfortable, somewhere they could bring their kids, get an awesome burger or just hang out,” says Kish. Entertainment is scheduled regularly throughout the week, but there will never be a cover charge.

The American is a neighbourhood pub located in Main Street’s epicentre for entertainment. It has quickly become a community living room with pinball, arcade games and pool to foster camaraderie and competition amongst friends. Well-executed cocktails and decent wines by the glass are on offer but B.C. craft beer is the focus with regularly scheduled tap-takeovers to keep things interesting. The 150-seat room and relaxed vibe make The American the perfect spot for parties big or small. The food offerings are succinct yet substantial and are provided by the fine folks at Monarch Burger. The American is open seven days a week, Sunday through Thursday from 5:00pm to 1:00am and Friday and Saturday from 5:00pm to 2:00am. The Monarch Burger kitchen is open Sunday through Wednesday from 5:00pm to 10:00pm and Thursday through Saturday from 5:00pm to 11:00pm.

Monarch Burger is the newest concept by renowned restaurateur Robert Belcham. The approach is simple: create a great burger using quality ingredients while taking pride in its preparation. All beef is sourced from local farmers who pasture raise and tend their animals with care. The beef is aged for 45 days, ground fresh and hand-formed into burger patties daily. Each service begins with buns still warm from the oven; soft, delicate, and lightly browned with butter on the flat-top griddle. The same care and attention to detail is evident in their mushroom vegetarian burger, French fries and kale Caesar salad. Currently you can find Monarch Burger at The American, 926 Main Street, Vancouver, B.C., Sunday through Wednesday from 5:00pm to 10:00pm and Thursday through Saturday from 5:00pm to 11:00pm.
