Tacofino to Celebrate National Taco Day With Roaming 'Random Acts of Tacos' Giveaway While Raising Funds For Those In Need
The beloved surf-centric, West Coast phenomenon known as Tacofino will show the love for its legion of local fans as well as those in need by embarking on a ‘Random Acts of Tacos’ giveaway throughout Vancouver to mark National Taco Day.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, Tacofino’s newly christened ‘Pink Truck’ will hand out 50 free fish tacos each at five random locations that will be announced across the brand’s Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts throughout the day. Tacofino fans who post a photo on Instagram that day using the hashtag #RandomActsOfTacos will also be entered into a draw to win a $200 Tacofino gift certificate.
In addition to the free taco giveaway, Tacofino locations in Vancouver, Victoria and Tofino will donate all fish taco proceeds on October 4 to Global Giving’s Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund to support relief efforts in the country that was recently hit with a series of earthquakes.
“We thought we’d take this opportunity to not only show our appreciation to our loyal followers, but also give something back to our friends in Mexico as they work to recover and rebuild after the devastating earthquakes,” says Tacofino Cofounder and Chef Jason Sussman, who regularly spent winters south of the border before launching the original Tacofino Cantina in Tofino with Kaeli Robinsong in 2009.
Formerly known as ‘White Lightning’ — one of the food trucks that helped earn Tacofino gold in the Best Food Truck category at the 2017 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards as well as the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver Awards — the ‘Pink Truck’ was recently given an eclectic, bumper-to-bumper redesign by BC artist Caroline Weaver that features vivid roses in full bloom, a massive speckled fish and neon-inspired logos and lettering.
Giving back to the community at large is nothing new to the Tacofino family — it proudly supports an array of local grassroots, non-profit and outreach initiatives, including the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, Salvation Army Harbour Light, Downtown Eastside Kitchen Tables Community Access Map, Potluck Café Society, Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre and Saint James Music Academy, among others.
Since its inception, the Tacofino brand has been celebrated for its trademark fusion of sun-dappled, surf-centric spirit and quality, fresh and affordable fare with an environmental and nutritional conscience. From its humble beginnings in Tofino, where the Tacofino Cantina was first launched at the back of the Live to Surf parking lot in 2009, the brand has now grown to include the original Cantina, a fleet of award-winning roaming food trucks, five brick-and-mortar restaurants in Vancouver and Victoria, a growing workforce of more than 250 employees and a legion of loyal fans.
