CBC Marketplace: Battle of the Food Delivery Apps
Hey ma — I’m on TV!
Never have I imagined that one day I’ll be on national television when I started my blog 4 years ago. It’s been a wild ride and I can’t believe it’s already been a year since this episode aired on CBC Marketplace! Shout out to my fellow colleagues & partner in crimes: Makda Ghebreslassie, Hubert Leung, and Eden the Foodie — and thank you so much to everyone who’s tuned in!

We came together to put Canada’s top three food delivery apps, Uber Eats, Foodora and SkipTheDishes, to the test. We evaluated everything including the flavour, temperature, quality and presentation of our food but more importantly, delivery time and prices. I was not surprised about the hidden markups on the food after using delivery apps at home, but was definitely taken aback by the price differences of the three apps. You know I’m a huge advocate of being transparent so it was super neat to be part of a show that’s dedicated to exposing the truth on matters that affect our everyday lifestyle.
Food-wise, I was super stoked to try 10 staple fast-food destinations like Burger Priest, Pi Co. and Loaded Perogies in one seating during the limited time I had in Toronto (even though it might’ve not been the best representation of the food and dine-in experience — don’t worry though, I’ll use this as an excuse to come back ASAP). I’ve taken part in many taste tests on camera before but this was by far the most intense!
Needless to say, this was an experience I’ll never forget: from the initial emails, filming my first demo reel, follow-up phone calls, landing in Toronto, taking an Uber to the film location, meeting Makda and spending the entire day shooting with my new foodie friends, to flying home and having to keep everything on the down low until the air date. Thanks again to CBC for flying me out to Toronto so I could be a part of this!

XOXO.
